7 Burgess, FW Silver, Pewter and Sheffield Plate.
Tudor 1947 Hardcover. Good Octavo
304 pp "This is a book for home connoisseurs who desire to know about their own treasures and the relics connecting them with good old families who were prosperous in the 18th century and earlier. Special prominence is given to silver because it is the metal mostly desired by the amateur collector, but Pewter and Sheffield Plate are also considered in this book in order to provide the reader with handy chapters of reference and to some extent explain the overlapping of domestic metal work of other materials and composite metals. This volume is a study of domestic silver as well as a review of earlier examples and those historic records of past peoples and ages almost forgotten, in which the beginnings of craftsmanship and commerce are found.".

19 Kent, Timothy Arthur London Silver Spoonmakers 1500-1697.
London The Silver Society 1981. B0007ATFPY First Edition. Softcover. Very Good. Professionally made box to protect the book Octavo
56 pp "Throughout the whole period from 1500 to 1697, many specialist spoonmakers were working in London. This is not to say that other goldsmiths were not making spoons; quite obviously they were. There must also have been numerous spoonmakers operating on a fairly small scale, and in addition the trade would have included a fair number of "all rounders" who included the manufacture of spoons among their other products. Furthermore, the proprietor of a substantial general business might well have had in his employment a journey man concerned with manufacture of spoons. It is clear, however, that at any one time during the period there was in existence a relatively small number of specialist goldsmiths operating what can only be termed "spoon factories" , turning out vast quantities of spoons and supplying the retail trade on a very substantial basis. The names of these leading spoonmakers appear again and again in the Court Minute Books of the London Goldsmiths' company, and it is apparent that they are linked by apprenticeships from generation to generation. The apprentices of one generation were the leading spoonmakers of the next. It is interesting to note that a large proportion of the boys apprenticed came from certain parts of the country; during the earlier part of the 17th century a whole group came from one place, Castle Cary in Somerset. Their position in the spoonmaking trade was analogous to that of the Cafes and Goulds (also Somerset born) who dominated the mid 18th century candlestick business...."
