Burr, Grace Hardendorff Hispanic Furniture from the Fifteenth through the Eighteenth Century. New York The Archive Press: 1964 Second Edition, Revised and Enlarged. Hardback in DJ Beige boards with black inlay on fr Ink has ran from author's name at top of spine and has made a 1 Minor edge wear , corner wear Quarto 235 pages including 207 black/white plates of which 51 are new to this edition. Written by the former Curator of Furniture of the Hispanic Society of America, this book is an illustrated history of the furniture of Spain, from the Gothic fifteenth century to the close of the Rococo eighteenth century. The author has included a chapter on Spanish and Portuguese colonial furniture, and an illustrated catalogue of the furniture in the Hispanic Society collection, perhaps the finest in this Hemisphere. Despite the recent surge of interest in Spanish furniture, for more than two decades all of the standard reference works on the subject have been out of print in English. Probably the most authoritative of these books--and certainly one of the rarest--was the First Edition of Hispanic Furniture. Published in 1941 in an edition of only 1000 copies, it earned a place on the famous Harvard List, a selection of books basic to the study of the history of art. This second edition now stands as the definitive reference book for scholars, decorators and collectors of Spanish furniture.
