While Mr. Sanders, a person of great architectural renown was examining the structural woodwork of ancient houses he was led to notice old furniture which had been in use for over two hundred years. It was simple, sturdy, effective, ornamental. He then set down to illustrate the furniture, woodwork, staircases, chairs, chests, bureaus, etc., and the plates and engravings in this volume were taken directly from those sketches. This elephant sized folio is an absolutely gorgeous study of the architect and architectural sketches from a day and age long gone.
